a 'SUPERCUT' OF THE FILM MODERN TIMES (1936) THAT FOCUSED ON THE TRAMP'S CONSTANT FLUX IN EMPLOYMENT/UNEMPLOYMENT, INCARCERATION/RELEASE, sanity/insanity. we see A MAN IN PERPETUAL PERMUTATIOn. edits are punctuated via hard cuts from the differing home formats of vhs, dvd and blu-ray.
the supercut was played within a shop window at a time of administration for many businesses, with a new kind of machinery putting people out of work. from mechanical cogs to the internet. modern times indeed.
filming commenced on march 28th from 5.58 - a time detailed in the film itself. the sequence played once every hour until the end of British summer time whereby clocks change by an hour. the project ceased at this lost hour and jump from 1am to 2am - all the imprints of passing pedestrians & vehicles burned upon it. cycle upon cylce.
the project speaks to hauntology, technology, politics, consumerism, cinema, etc. etc.
overloaded with meaning. the film disintegrates into a mess.
